Figure Photographers: Doin' It Right

By Animaven on September 18, 2011

The best part about being born post baby boomer generation is that nobody really expects us to grow up. That’s why I love my generation; we get to play with toys all we want.

Some of us, however, are a little more skillful about how we play with our toys. The following is a collection of anime toy/figurine photographers who make me LOL.

Tokyopop Putting Out Volume 3 of Hetalia?

By Animaven on September 10, 2011

Stu Levy has a hell of a time running his company. After the collapse of Borders, Tokyopop, one of the biggest (and first) manga publishers in the United States, went under. Stu pointed the finger at Borders for their unpaid tab to Tokyopop. Those inside the industry who are familiar with Levy’s ADD-like leadership speculated otherwise. And while the manga community mourned the death of the American side of Tokyopop, Levy moved on to other things. He put up a Kickstarter account to help fund a documentary on the disasters in Japan and seemed to wholly ignore the brouhaha.

By Heather Amaral on September 08, 2011

Anime Fest, or A-Fest, took place September second through fifth in Dallas, Texas. Dallas, the home to anime companies like Funimation, always has a strong otaku turnout, easily visible in the cosplay.

“Tiger and Bunny” is Japan’s Love Letter to American Comics?

By Animaven on September 02, 2011

Let’s face it: when it comes to superheroes, America’s comic book industry has done just about anything that can be done. It would be difficult, in that light, for an anime about caped superheroes on the job to NOT resemble DC and Marvel. As brilliant as “Tiger and Bunny” can be, however, it uses so many tried and true tropes that you have to wonder where homage ends and plot/character smash-and-grab begins.
