Blood-C: the Last Dark picks up 6 months after the events the Blood-C anime series. The Blood-C anime deals with the otherworldly creatures, known as Elder Bairns, which are secretly consuming the inhabitants of a small town. Enter the heroine of Blood-C series, Saya Kisaragi, who must deal with the demons devouring the denizens of her village; all the while, she must deal with her mysterious past that is tied to the powers that allow her to take down the creatures that lurk in the shadows.

In Blood-C: the Last Dark, the setting has shifted from the small, sleepy village to the streets of Tokyo. The mastermind behind the events that unfolded in the anime series is now aiming to use the Elder Bairns to take control of the world. Our lead, Saya Kisaragi, is looking to take revenge on that person for his actions in the anime series. This time around, Saya is aided by a group of youths, known as Sirrut organization. This group is looking to expose the truth behind the Seventh Heaven organization and its ties with Elder Bairn attacks in Tokyo, and other shady back-door government dealings.

The first part of the movie is fairly slow. This is in line with the pace of the TV series.  In the TV series, however, the slow pace of the early episodes served to create an eerie and isolated atmosphere. That is not the case in the movie, which is set in amidst the hustle and bustle of Japan’s capital. Instead, the slow pace of the movie is mainly due to the time that is taken to introduce the new characters and the exposition needed to bridge the story of the anime series to the grander plot of the movie.

Once the setting and character are properly presented, the movie shifts towards the meat of the story, which is one of revenge. Both Saya and the leader of the Sirrut have a score to settle with leader of Seventh Heaven. Ultimately, this movie ends in large-scale battle that leads to an ending that is fairly predictable.

Blood-C: the Last Dark is a decent anime movie, with a couple of plot twist that keeps it from being just an average anime action flick. Since only a few characters from the anime return for the movie, the story tries to make up for it by attempting to make the viewer care about the new cast. However, none of the new cast will leave the same impression that the original cast did in the anime series. Furthermore, the action and enemy design is competent, but does not lend itself to memorable fights like the ones that occurred in the anime series.  If you go into this movie looking for more of the same horror, action and character development of the anime series, you are going to find that this movie serves up a very different experience.

The movie does serve as a conclusion to the story of the anime in this movie. So it has that much going for it. However, it is a drawn-out ending that still manages to leave a few loose ends of its own. The plot of this movie would have been better fit into an episode or two the end of the anime series.
